Out and About in a Small Town

I’m not going to rush over and act like we are long, lost sorority sisters.  No squealing  No jumping up and down.  No awkward how should I introduce you.  No moment of “ah crap, what was her name again?”We live in a small town.  The likelihood of me bumping into someone is very high.  You may get a head nod, or some other small gesture of acknowledgment, but unless you approach me, that’s about it.   There are several reasons I keep it to a simple gesture.~ We are out of context.  I’m not in my office with dim lighting and aromatherapy filling the air.  You may not even notice or recognize me.  (Or vice versa, I may not recognize you while vertical and in your professional attire.)~ You may be with someone.  I don’t want to put you “on the spot” trying to figure out how to introduce me.  You might be with your boss, an acquaintance, or nosy friend.  You may not want to explain our relationship to this person, revealing personal information. (If I am with someone, and we do chat, I simply call you a “friend”.)~ You may look busy.  I don’t want to tie you up in a conversation.~ I’m awful with small talk.  It’s true.~ Maybe you are with your family, or on a date.  You may not want to be bothered.~ If it’s been awhile since you have been in, I don’t want you to feel like you need to make up a ton of reasons why you haven’t had a recent appointment.  It’s your choice to see me.  I don’t judge you for not seeing me once a month.  I don’t take it personally.~ I simply don’t like awkward.I just want to remain respectful of your time and space.  If you want to say hi, that’s not a problem.  I don’t mind at all.  (You’ll probably catch me in my workout clothes, or disheveled, that's Murphy’s Law.)  It might be a great chance for you to tell the friend you are with how awesome massage is.  It might be a perfect reminder that you need a massage; the universe is speaking to you!If want to say “hi” great!  If you don’t have the time because you are late to pick up your kid from school, or need to get back to work… I’m cool with that too!  Otherwise, it's the discrete head nod or maybe the half hand wave! Enjoy your day, and I'll see you soon for your next massage appointment!Post #17 of 20 in the February Challenge, check it out!
